A MAN caught with more than 14,000 indecent images of children and animals told police that he was just “curious” about what he could see on the web.

Mark Richard John Formby said he had no sexual interest in the images, but was “curious what was out there online”.

Officers visited his home in Church Road, in Formby, in September last year, after his IP address was linked to the downloading of indecent images.

Eve Johnson, prosecuting, told Sefton Magistrates’ Court, that they asked Formby, who has no previous convictions, if he had ever seen indecent images, .

When asked where he had seen them, Formby replied: “On my computer.”

The police then seized a number of items, including laptops and hard drives, and found more than 14,000 indecent images of children. Of those, 787 were in the most serious Category A and 331 were Category B. A further 110 depicted extreme pornographic images involving live animals.

Ms Johnson said: “During interview, the defendant stated he had been curious about what was out there.

“He said he had no sexual interest but was curious at what was out there online.”

Formby pleaded guilty to three charges of possessing indecent photographs of children, possessing prohibited images of children, and possessing extreme pornographic images involving live animals.

He was ordered to sign on the Sex Offenders’ Register and will be sentenced at Liverpool Crown Court on Thursday, December 20.
