Railway fans kept in the loop
MEMBERS of Southport Model Railway Society recently enjoyed a detailed look at the construction of the Merseyrail Loop and Link lines, which 40 years ago revolutionised travel to and around Liverpool.
It was given by John Ryan, using his original colour slides taken while working as the liaison engineer on what has been the only main line underground railway built outside London for more than a century.
The next talk will take place at the club room,
57a Portland Street on Tuesday, December 11 from 7.30pm, when architect Graham Whitehead will take members through a whirlwind review of station architecture from the Liverpool to Manchester Railway right through to Foster’s Canary Wharf station.
The talk is open to interested members of the public, who are advised to turn up in good time, preferably emailing the secretary in advance on drjimford@btinternet. com.
