Lads are willing to learn says Green

TERRY Green heaped praise on his ‘outstanding’ Burscough side after their dramatic 2-1 victory at Hanley Town last weekend.

Donald Eumessi handed the visitors the lead during the first-half but Ollie Mellor levelled proceedings on the stroke of half-time.

Hanley grew into the game during the second period but Burscough, who looked set to earn their third draw in five games, struck late on with Eumessi netting a last-gasp winner.

The goal meant Green has now lost just one of his opening seven games in charge of Linnets after being appointed at the beginning of November.

“It’s been really good so far,” he assessed.

“The lads were outstanding on Saturday and we really should have won by five or six.

“We’re trying to focus on their positional play and how we want to do things but also put a smile on their faces and the players are really enjoying themselves.

“The camaraderie at training and games is just outstanding and it’s reflecting on the team.”

New signings Danny Penswick and Steve Palmer both started the win over Hanley with Green lauding the impact of his experienced stars.

“This is a young team and they’re all willing to learn,” the former

Squires Gate assistant said.

“They’re sponges.

They soak the information up and take things on board.

“Chad Whyte’s a goalscorer and you find they often don’t want to be helping other lads but on Saturday Donald’s scored two and Chad is helping him through it.

“Stevie Palmer and Danny Penswick are good lads who, in the dressing room, talk at a level and a pace the lads can understand.

“They’re passing information on the pitch that I give in the changing room.”

Green also confirmed that Palmer, who has played in the Evo-Stik with AFC Fylde, will also become his assistant manager at Victoria Park.
