Body found in water

POLICE are investigating after a man’s body was found in water near Southport on Monday morning.

Merseyside police closed off Banks Road, near the border of Southport and West Lancashire, at around 10.10am, after reports a body had been spotted.

The identity of the man has not yet been confirmed.

Police, Merseyside Fire & Rescue Service and Coastguards all attended and the man was removed from the water and pronounced dead.

A police spokesman said: “At this time, the death is being treated as unexplained.”
