Shopper losing bag a salutary warning, town police say

-

POLICE have advised Christmas shoppers in Sefton to ensure they keep their valuables safe when carrying numerous bags full of festive purchases.

The warning comes after one Chrismas shopper had a very fortunate escape this when she was picking up her presents.

Sefton police said on Facebook: “One lady doing her Christmas shopping in Southport was lucky yesterday.

“The lady had got on a bus to go back to where her car was parked, carrying a lot of bags.

“In the process, she left her handbag on a bench on Lord Street. The bag had everything in it: keys to car and home, cash, cards and mobile phone.”

Fortunately for the lady in question, a parking attendant had come across her bag before it fell into the wrong hands, which police described as ‘very lucky’.

The police continued: “She stopped a PCSO who was on foot patrol in the town centre at the time, who was able to arrange for her to be taken out of the cold to Southport police station to try and sort the situation out.

“On arrival, her bag had been handed in at the police station by a parking attendant who had found it.

“All the contents were present and correct.

“This lady was very lucky.

“Unfortunately, this is not always the case.

“It’s easily done when you are busy and rushing around, but make every effort to keep your valuables safe at all times, and maybe don’t put everything in one bag.”
