Please help us to give our Poppie back her sight

ASOUTHPORT dog owner is appealing to residents in the town to help fund an operation for their beloved family pet.

Poppie the Yorkshire Terrier has contracted cataracts in both eyes, rendering her blind.

Poppie was already deaf, and therefore heavily relied on her sight, which will cost £7,000 to restore.

Gordon McConnell, Poppie’s owner, said: “Poppie is a loving family pet and the best friend of our eight-year-old son.

“As you can imagine, she now has extreme difficulty getting around and is housebound.

“She needs 24/7 care to enable her to eat and drink, go to the toilet, sleep and even move around.

“Without care she constantly bumps her nose and head on furniture, doorways, tables, falls down stairs and steps etc.”

Medical help is available to help Poppie regain her sight and improve her quality of life, but it will not come cheap and the required surgery is not covered by pet insurance.

The family have started a crowdfunding page in an attempt to give their beloved pooch the surgery she so desperately needs.

Gordon said: “Poppie’s surgery can restore her sight to full vision.

“Cateract surgery has to be performed by a specialist eye veterinary consultant and not your everyday vet.

“The cost and care for this is £3,500 per eye.

“Pet insurance unfortunately does not cover her cataracts.

“In light of her setback, Poppie is still a very loving family pet and her struggle every day breaks all our hearts.

“She is a healthy pet otherwise, and our son looks forward to a day when she can go back outside and even take her for a walk.

“With your kind help and donations, hopefully we can reach the target to give her the sight-saving surgery she needs to ena- ble her to have a happy and fulfilled life.”
