No upset in Zetland derby

THE First Division derby at the Zetland looked like causing an upset when the ‘visitors’ E Street Band led 26-20 at halfway.

But the ‘home’ side won all the remaining rounds to finish 48-43 ahead led by John Clarke 19 and Harry Owen 12 with Alan Wright 15 and both the Davids, Nickeas and Twigge, 11. Casablanca won the first round at Wings but the home side gradually pulled away to finish 55-43 ahead with all of the their players again in double figures, Maurice Wright and Keith Mulhearn, both 15, Tom Farley 14 and Dag Griffiths 11 with Bill Thomas 15, Dave Dutton 13 and grand old veteran Arthur Jones 10 leading the reply.

Led by Dave Leyland 15, John Richards 14 and Brian Cummins 11, Devonshire Club led from the start at Drifting

Sands and won comfortabl­y 47-32 with Keith Wilkinson 11 and Derek Roberts 10 leading for Sands.

Fishermen’s Rest and Dismounted were level after six rounds but the “Fish” won the seventh 9-1 to draw away and finished 39-30 ahead led by Dave Williams and Steve Murphy, both 11, with Mike Watson 13 and Steve Watson 12 for the home side.

In Division Two, leaders Mixed Blues lost comfortabl­y 45-31 at home to Vikings and now share the lead with their opponents and Exams with three matches remaining.

Alan Martin 16 and Kate Woods 13 led for Vikings and Paul Tandy and Bill Morris, both 10, for the home side. A fine 23 from Dermot Williams and 10 from Chris Wood led Exams to a 44-28 victory at St Jeromes with Sue Ford 13 and Mike Beckingham 10 leading for the Formby side.

Quads lie two points behind the leaders after their 38-31 victory at

MPs lead by Richard Farbon 13 and Steve Redfern 10 with Ann Evans 13 leading for

MPs.

Led by old stalwarts Ged Gallagher 13 and Nick Aindow 11, Formby Pavilion proved too strong for Southport FC in winning 42-30 with Mick Hopkins 13 leading for the football club.
