where the C team hung onto 19pts of their 56pt award in a 381-400 win, highlight of the evening must have been the the brotherly clash between Yameen and Rashad Al Dahiri, classic!

As the results continued to come in it was pleasing to see that the system was working, however it wasn’t all plain sailing for the Handicap Committee, four ties did have more than convincing differences.

A strong Waterloo A side got the better of a weakened higher tier Princes St B by 10pts, even before their handicap was added, 439-349 the final score.

Crosby F, awarded a 158pt start, seemed to have a very comfortable evening against Princes St C who only managed to claw back 59pts, managing just two maximum 55pt wins in the process.

In the all third division match Argyle J and Southport C started at scratch, which didn’t help the lower placed Argyle outfit, Southport winning by 117pts.

Finally, on a negative vibe, first division Princes St A conceded their tie against bottom tier Crosby H with three contests to go, as their chances of overturning the 336pt deficit plunged into the abyss.

Sadly Argyle F and Crosby E conceded their matches against Princes St E and Holy Trinity A respectively.

Back to those positives of what is a success story of some decent handicapping.

North Meols seemed to have turned on the style away to fellow third division outfit Argyle G, who themselves played very well in restricting the visitors to just two maximum 55pts.

It finished 331-380, North Meols overturning Argyles 26pt award.

Holy Trinity B also progress after a close 390-409 victory at Southport B in an all second division battle.

Susie Hughes with two maximums, whilst conceding only 47pts looked liked the match winner.

Third division Princes St F were awarded a 202pt start at home to Argyle B.

Superb effort from the home side pushed their first division opponents all the way, missing out by just 13pts at the finish, 417-430 - Irene Mullan with 77pts being their standout performer. Bottom of the third division verses second in the first, rounded off a terrific week of Gunson Cup Table Tennis, Crosby G with a 312pt advantage faced Crosby B, with an ominous task.

How do you suppress the high flyers.

Well to their credit the third division team gave their all, and a 21pt shortfall wasn’t such a bad result, in fact considering that their opponents were the only side to get a maximum 440 pts, then they can say they had the toughest job of all.

One tie between Argyle E and Waterloo B was postponed, which leaves a fairly even mix across the three divisions.
