Centre’s cups of cheer
FOLLOWING its successful bid for an Awards for All grant from the Big Lottery Fund, Hesketh Bank Community Centre has been celebrating being able to buy new mugs, which have been greatly welcomed by the local U3A group.
Diane Earles, the community centre’s treasurer, said: “Becconsall U3A coffee morning was always a struggle for us as every mug and cup we had in the centre was used, most of which had been donated or seen better days.
“These monies have now paid for 150 brand new mugs and the coffee morning is a much nicer experience all round.”
The lottery grant has already helped the community centre buy much needed tables and fit vanity units and supply warm water in the women’s toilets.
Next on the shopping list are heaters and flooring for the washrooms.
Steve Kirby, chairman, added: “Receiving this award is a mark of quality of the work we are doing in the community and we would like to thank the Big Lottery Fund and all the lottery players for this recognition and support.”
