INDEPENDEN­T businesses in Southport are opening their doors to offer relief to homeless people over winter.

Those in need can benefit from hot food and drinks and even haircuts courtesy of two firms, Smooch Milkshake and Dessert Bar and R&R Hair & Beauty.

Smooch is offering free hot drinks to homeless people through the festive period. The Hoghton Street shop also offered free breakfasts on Christmas Eve

A spokesman said: “Christmas is a time to reflect on what’s important in life and spend quality time with our loved ones. We often forget to think of the hardship others may be experienci­ng.”
