Mr Potato aims for widespread appeal

-

A NEW takeaway has opened in Southport town centre.

Mr Potato, in Nevill Street, officially opened on Monday, January 14.

The new business claims to be an “out of the ordinary potato takeaway” and has been opened by Peter Kershaw.

Mr Kershaw was inspired to take on the new business venture after his wife was unable to find healthy food options when leaving the gym.

It took eight weeks to set the business up, from getting the premises on November 15, to signing the release, refurbishing and opening it.

The takeaway offers a large selection of potato-based products, which make up a breakfast and main menu – and its also offers desserts.

All the potatoes are said to be the “highest quality” and have been purchased from UK growers.

According to the Mr Potato UK website, the potatoes “are specially selected, graded and washed ready for slow oven baking”.

It adds: “Our potatoes are slowbaked and then generously filled with our fresh and tasty toppings.

“Hot or cold, plain or spicy, the choice is yours.”

Scouse, corned beef hash and Thai curry are some of the unusual fillings on offer.

The takeaway will be open seven days a week, including public holidays.

Mr Potato also plans to offer a delivery service in the future, although a date has not yet been confirmed.

Mr Kershaw said: “We’re opening up the market for what people can do with a jacket potato.

“It’s not just cheese and beans.”

He added: “Anybody who wants to should come in and give it a try.”
