Tributes to ladies who loved our gardens

-

TRIBUTES have been paid to two people who gave much of their time to making Southport a better place.

A spokesman for the Friends Of Kings Gardens volunteers group said: “Barbara O’Toole and Elizabeth Moss were members of our group. Both Barbara and Elizabeth gave freely of their time in helping our community by their love and support of our Kings Gardens, one of our town’s precious assets. The gardens are sandwiched between Promenade and the Marine Lake.

“Sadly we have lost both Barbara and Elizabeth this last year. A huge gap has been left that we can never fill.

“We will remember Barbara for her lovely smile and her humour, her concern for others too was paramount, as was her work within the gardens.

“Amongst other duties Barbara was adept at giving our guided tours around the gardens, being a history fan she absolutely relished this as she did opening up the arts and crafts centre to help visitors with information on the gardens.

“Elizabeth enjoyed attending our regular meetings and amongst other duties would collect donations for us and help serve on our refreshments stall – all with a willing and helpful attitude.

“She also gave voluntary support to our local Queenscourt Hospice and Sandpipers although recent health problems had restricted her ability to assist as much as she wished.

“Both ladies enjoyed their work within the gardens.

“The unexpected deaths of our dedicated volunteers has shocked and upset The Friends group. However, we are discussing ideas on how to remember our pals.

“It is hard to forget people who gave so much to remember. Thank you ladies, we miss you.”
