Funfair creates 76 roles as town jobs market has ups and downs

-

IF YOU love all the fun of the fair, keep an eye on developments at Southport Pleasureland in the coming months as it has just advertised a number of job roles with more to come.

The attraction announced the positions at a time when key department stores in the town, such as Debenhams and Beales, have been in jeopardy.

The new openings are ride operator, maintenance technician, ride supervisor, housekeeping supervisor, housekeeping technician and food, beverage and retail manager.

Owner Norman Wallis said: “As part of our ongoing growth and improvement plans at Southport Pleasureland we have recently announced the creation of a number of new full time positions to join the team here in the park.

“With the sad demise of the key department stores in our town, we know there is a pool of people with a very valuable skill set now looking for work. We believe they may be well suited to some of these new roles we are looking to fill.

“In addition, we will be holding a recruitment workshop in the park on Saturday, February 29 to interview for a further 70 positions. More details of the workshop will be released on our Facebook page this week.

“As the longer term expansion plans that we are currently working on come to fruition, there will be significant further roles created, and the breadth and variety of skills we will require continues to expand too.”

Ambitious plans for a multi-million pound transformation are now under way after the signing of a strategic partnership between

Norman Wallis and Sefton Council. Mr Wallis is hoping to create a centre of excellence for tourism in Southport to provide training required to create skills that will give long term career opportunities both locally and internationally.

Mr Wallis said: “The creation of such a centre would help to revitalise the town centre and create a vibrant atmosphere in which to live and work.”

Southport Pleasureland is to open earlier than usual this year with customers able to enjoy the first rides of the new season on Saturday, March 21.
