Draws should be common

- BY TOM FARLEY

DRAWS should be common in handicap matches but the vagaries of the questions make them fairly rare.

We had one this week, a 42-42 draw between Quads, receiving 5, at Exams, the lead changing hands on several occasions.

Nick Philpott and Chris Wood, both 12, and Brian Waggett 11 scored well for Exams and Adrien Cannell 18 and Richard Farbon 12 for the visitors.

Casablanca started well after conceding a 15 point start at MPs but later made little further headway and the home side finished

47-41 ahead led by Ann Evans 15 with Dave Dutton, also 15, leading for the visitors.

Southport FC lost only three of their 11 point start at home to Zetland by halfway and just withstood their opponents to finish 46-45 ahead with good scoring from David Philips 15 and Harry Owen 16, John Clarke 15 and Mark Halton 11 leading for the visitors. Conceding 10 at Shifting Sands, Metros finished much the stronger to come out 48-44 winners with fine scoring from Dave Leyland 18 and John Richards 17 with Jack Gardner 15 leading for Sands.

Receiving 2 from Mixed Blues, Formby Pavilion were two behind after six rounds but won the next 8-2 and finished 35-30 ahead led by Nick Aindow 15 with Claire Newbery 12 leading for the Blues. Receiving 4, Vikings came from behind at halfway to win all of the remaining rounds at E Street Band to finish 44-38 ahead led by Alan Martin and Kate Woods, both 14, with Dave Nickeas 16 and Alan Wright 11 leading for the home side.

Dismounted made the best use of their nine point start at Fishermen’s Rest to finish 42-39 ahead with good scoring from Steve Watson 14 and Frank Hansen 10 with Steve Murphy 14 and Dave Tarr 12 leading for the Fish.

Led by Sheila Tickle 24 and Keith Gowans 12, Formby Sports made light of their 16 point concession to ExPats with a comfortable 52-40 victory.

Wings started with quite a deluge of points in the early rounds to overcome their 29 point concession and finished 61-47 ahead at St Jeromes with Dag Griffiths 19, Tom Farley 18 and Keith Mulhearn 16 filling their boots.
