Spartan ready for next battle
SOUTHPORT’S only active Professional Boxer Jake ‘The Spartan’ Barton is returning to the ring on March 28 in Liverpool.
Currently undefeated the 25 year old, who is competing in the Light Heavyweight division has made a big change to his preparation in 2020.
Thanks to his sponsors, Barton has been able to leave his former job as a painter and decorator and concentrate full time on his profession.
Speaking to his coach Robbie Butler who runs the Rydal Gym in Kirkdale where Jake trains, Rob said “Jake has reached a new level already, going full time has been the best thing for him and this is only really the start.”
No opponent has been announced yet but with a record of 4-0 thus far ‘The Spartan’ will be looking to make it five when he climbs through those ropes again.
Just over five weeks out Barton has begun his sparring this week as he aims to be in the best shape possible for the fight, leaving no stone unturned.
Jake is managed and promoted by Steve Wood at VIP Promotions who also look after the likes of current IBF Featherweight World Champion Josh Warrington so is certainly in good company.
Outlining the ideal 2020 Barton has clear goals set. He said: “Firstly we’ve got March 28 to deal with and I’m definitely not overlooking that but it is good to visualise and set goals and I do have an idea of how I’d like my 2020 to play out”.
Jake’s wife Jennifer is currently expecting their first child, due in May and Barton stated he’d like to get two fights in before the new arrival, starting with his scheduled bout in March.
He continued: “I want to be active and get at least four fights in this year, with the ideal finish to the year would be bringing a VIP show back to Southport and headlining that.
An eight rounder or even a 10 round fight for the Central Area Title would be a great finish to the year, I’ve also got my eye on the ‘Ultimate Boxxer’ should they decide to do another Light Heavyweight show”.
The ‘Ultimate Boxxer’ is a one night eight man tournament which is showcased live on BT Sport with a big prize for the winner, so it’s clear with something like this and also titles on his mind, Barton definitely isn’t in the Pro Boxing game to mess around.
Jake also stated that he’d like to thank all of his sponsors, he said he will be announcing all of them individually in the near future. Tickets are now on sale for Barton’s fifth professional fight and can be purchased by contacting Jake directly, search ‘Jake The Spartan Barton’ on Facebook or find him on Instagram @ jakebarton94.
There’s also a coach travelling to and from Southport to carry the famous Barton Army to support Jake with spaces available to book now.
Finally, Barton’s career at this stage relies solely on sponsorship to help him prepare for these big fights, so if your company would be interested and joining the team and supporting Jake on his professional boxing journey, contact him via email on jakebarton94@ gmail.com for more information on sponsorship packages, starting from just £100.
