Dad’s anger at ‘atrocious’ holiday conditions

-

A TEENAGER has been charged after an 18-year-old was stabbed in Southport town centre.

The victim remains in hospital after being stabbed in the stomach in the early hours of Saturday morning but his injuries are not thought to be lifethreatening.

Police were called to Waverley Street at around 6am on Saturday to reports of an “altercation” and the victim was found injured. The road was cordoned off for several hours after the incident.

Callum Cunliffe, 19 and of Loxley Road, was arrested and has now been charged with Section 18 wounding and possession of a bladed article following the incident.

He has been remanded in custody until September 28 where he will appear at Liverpool Crown Court for a plea hearing.

A DAD’S holiday with his six-year-old daughter was ruined after the pair discovered human faeces and phlegm in their Pontins room, it’s claimed.

William Morton and his daughter travelled to the Ainsdale resort for a weekend away.

The 49-year-old from Kirkby, who is on benefits, had saved up to pay the £139 fee, but said he was forced to cut the holiday short because of the shocking conditions.

He said he had wanted to take his daughter away to take her mind off the coronavirus pandemic this year and relax.

Mr Morton claimed: “The state of the place was atrocious. To have snot on the wall and poo on the floor - you just don’t expect that on holiday.”

The dad and daughter first arrived on Friday, August 21, but requested to change rooms immediately.

He said: “In the first room, there was snot on the walls. There was also flakes of paint all over the bed and floor.”

He said he requested to change rooms, but claimed he was waiting about four hours until another space was available.

The next room, he claimed, “stunk of mould and moss” and he requested to change again.

William said he cleaned it himself and changed the bedsheets to ones he has personally brought along so he and his daughter could sleep.

Staff told William a new room would be prepared for him while he had a breakfast the next morning, he said.

He said: “In the new room there was poo on the floor, there was a stench coming out of the room. It didn’t look like it was from a pet, or an animal.”

William also alleged he was threatened by young people also staying at the resort, with one young male saying he would “batter” him.

He said: “I just got my daughter out of bed and phoned a taxi to leave. I told a security guard on the way out.”

He added: “I’m on benefits and it was £139, but by the time you take in to account food, travel and activities you’re talking about £300.

While we were there I said to my daughter we’ll go to Southport fair because nothing was open in Pontins, there was nothing to do.

“I would like a refund and I would like them to clean the place up.

They were shut for four months, why hasn’t it been cleaned by them?”

Pontins Southport and Britannia Hotels has been approached for comment.
