CCTV images have been released of two men wanted in connection with an early morning assault which left a man with facial injuries.

The victim, who has since fully recovered, suffered a “sustained and violent” attack in the town centre late last year.

Police were called to reports of a fight on Nevill Street at 2.45am on Thursday, December 5 and found the man with facial injuries.

Two people, a 35-year-old man from Kirkdale and a 22 year-old female from Southport, have since been arrested on suspicion of assault and affray and remain under investigation. The woman’s arrest was also related to suspicion of obstructing police.

As part of the ongoing investigation, detectives want to identify the two men pictured as they believe they may have information about what happened.

Detective Chief Inspector Gayle Rooney said: “Although significant time has passed since this incident, arrests have been made as our enquiries have continued. As a result, we now believe that the two men pictured could hold valuable information to help so if you know them, please come forward.

“This was a sustained and violent assault in which the victim was extremely distressed but thankfully made a full recovery.

“We’re determined to find all of those responsible and put them before the courts.”

ALDI will reveal a fresh new look for its Southport store, when it re-opens to customers today (Thursday, September 3).

The supermarket at Meols Cop Retail Park will boast a “more customerfocused layout” with wider aisles and clearer signs to make shopping more effortless.

The transformation is part of Aldi’s £300m investment into further improving its stores and services across the UK, and is based on feedback from more than 50,000 customers.

The new-look store offers increased space, dedicated to fresh British meat and fish, as well popular Lacura health and beauty products, award winning beers, wines and spirits, famous Mamia babycare products, and a new and improved Food to Go section, offering a choice of fresh salads, sandwiches and sushi for busy customers. Fresh bread and cakes have been moved to the last aisle preventing them getting squashed under customers’ shopping and the store will now offer new, easy to browse freezers.

Customers visiting the store can take advantage of Aldi’s famous Specialbuys, which are available every Thursday and Sunday. During opening week, the store will be offering a wide range of kitchen must-haves, including, a chalkboard slow-cooker for £14.99, a George Foreman grill for £12.99 and assorted utensils starting from £1.49.

Aldi store manager Andrew Rimmer, said: “The store is looking fantastic, and we can’t wait to welcome our loyal customers back so they can see it for themselves. We’re committed to making sure that the shopping experience each customer enjoys in our stores is on a par with the products and services they’re used to.

“Customers will notice a few small changes throughout the store to align with social distancing guidelines, ensuring we keep our community safe, and we thank you for the co-operation in ensuring the safety of both our colleagues and customers.”
