BOOTLE continued their fine start to their league season with a comprehensive 7-2 victory over Squires Gate. After a delayed start to the season which even saw the club close down for a fortnight, the Bucks kicked off their North West Counties League campaign with a 4-1 win over Charnock Richard last Tuesday night.

That victory was based on foundations from the back, with both centre-backs, Will Bell and Louis Coyne, getting their names on the scoresheet.

But here, it was all about the Bucks’ forwards, with Ben Hodkinson, Connor Millington and Carl Peers all opening their accounts, while Tom Peterson and Jack McGowan made it two in two.

The Bucks raced into an early lead thanks to Peers’ deflected effort before Hodkinson collected his first of the afternoon after just 15 minutes.

And that was how it stayed until the second minute of the second half when Millington fired his side into a commanding lead with an unstoppable effort range.

A minute later McGowan raced clear for number four before Millington scored an even better goal from distance for the fifth on 53 minutes.

To their credit, Gate dug in deep, and their efforts were rewarded when James Boyd reduced the arrears just before the hour mark.

But the Bucks soon restored their fivegoal cushion when Peterson finished from close-range having previously been denied by Jordan Gidley in the Gate goal.

Hodkinson then collected his second of the afternoon with 15 minutes remaining before Boyd netted a late consolation for the visitors.

Bootle added another victory on Tuesday night, beating Longridge Town 3-2. Visit @Bootle_FC on Twitter for details.
