The RSPCA column At last dog adoptions can start again

-

GREAT news here at the Animal Centre, we have now recommenced dog adoptions!

At last, we have been given the green light to allow dog adoptions to go-ahead; again, like with our cats, we are working under a strict Covid-secure procedure. This can be found for both cats and dogs on our website, www. rspcasouthport.org/adopting

The first dog to go up for adoption is Ruby. Ruby is an eightyear-old American Bulldog who has been in the Animal Centre since October 2020. She is now ready to find her forever home. We are looking for a mature experienced household (any children must be 16+) with no other pets for Ruby.

Ruby is an energetic girl who loves going out for walks. We have found her to be strong on the lead at times, but eager to learn and loves training sessions. We have mixed Ruby with a few other dogs on and off lead and have mainly had positive experiences. We have also started recall training with Ruby and find she doesn’t stray too far away from us when out and about.

Ruby loves her food and playing with toys, but she can be a little impatient if you are slow at giving her treats, or throwing toys for her. She is a bossy girl who loves to be the centre of attention and has captured the hearts of all the staff and volunteers here at the centre.

If you think Ruby sounds like she could be the right dog for you, then please send in a Perfect Match Application which can be found on our website. Once we have received your application, one of our reception team will contact you to discuss more about Ruby with you.

If Ruby isn’t the one for you, but you are still looking for a new dog then please do check our website regularly for new dogs being added. Our Kennel team are very busy assessing more dogs to see who is also ready for adoption, and more will be available soon.

Our next girl to look out for is Lilo, she is currently under assessment and will need a very special home.

Lilo originally came to us after her owners could no longer manage with the amount of dogs they had to care for. When Lilo first arrived, she was extremely nervous of new people and her surroundings, but staff have now built up a great relationship with her and we have seen an improvement in her overall behaviour.

However, new owners will need several meet and greets with Lilo to build up their own relationship before an adoption could go ahead.

This will be arranged with you outside of your home (preferably back garden), whilst you are not allowed to travel to the Animal Centre under lockdown rules.

Owners will need to be experienced with fearful dogs, and have lots of time to give to Lilo and work on her training. Given the right home, Lilo will blossom and be your lifelong loyal friend. Lilo will be available for adoption very soon, please check the website for when this happens.

If in the meanwhile you cannot adopt an animal, but would still like to help, please visit our webpage, www.rspcasouthport.org/ how-to-help

Here you will find details on how to make donations towards the care of our animals, become a ‘friend of the Animal Centre’, or even how to leave us a gift in your Will.

The RSPCA Animal Centre is located at New Cut Lane, Halsall, Southport, Merseyside.
