Pals abandoned injured beach biker

A MAN was taken to hospital after an air ambulance attended an incident on Southport beach.

A 34-year-old man, from Liverpool, suffered ‘potentially serious injuries’ after falling from a quad bike on Sunday (July 18).

Lifeguards, police, a ground ambulance and an air ambulance attended the scene.

Officers say despite the seriousness of his injuries, all but one of this friends ‘abandoned him’.

The man was taken to Southport Hospital for treatment.

A spokesperson for police in Sefton said: “Local Policing Team PCSO’s from Southport attended Ainsdale Beach in response to reports of a male injured after falling from a quad bike on the beach.

“Lifeguards had been first on scene to give first aid to a 34-year-old male from Liverpool.

“Following the attendance of the ambulance service on the ground, the Air Ambulance was contacted and landed on the beach to offer more treatment at the scene.

“Despite the male being left with potentially serious injuries, apart from one person, his friends abandoned him, as Roads Policing Units arrived at the scene.

“The male was eventually felt fit enough to leave the beach in an ambulance to be taken to Southport Hospital and was not required to be airlifted from the scene.

“Great work from the RNLI lifeguards in performing potentially lifesaving first aid at the scene, on a day when the beach was extremely busy and thanks to the Sefton Rangers for their assistance at the scene.”

‘‘Section 59 of the Police Reform Act can be applied to the anti-social use of any motor vehicle on the beaches of the Sefton Coastline, which can lead to seizure of vehicles.”
