COVID MANAGEMENT HARD
MR POWELL is strong on assertions: so let me emulate him.
John Bercow is widely acknowledged as being the worse Speaker in living memory: left leaning and partisan in everything from Brexit onwards.
This confirmed by his move to join the Labour Party or is that in the hope of gaining ermine in the Upper House – widely thought to be undeserved.
The loss of the Tory seat at Chesham and Amersham was indeed predominately because of HS2 and there is no reliable evidence to the contrary.
All voters condemn those MPs and senior civil servants who thought the rules they have imposed on us lesser mortals did not apply to them especially when in pursuit of dishonourable liaisons with the lying to spouses and others, unfortunately widespread in our society today.
The Labour Party is not immune from either of these transgressions.
The various alternative forms of voting were, not that long ago, well-debated and rejected as was Remain no doubt due to the gullibility of the public and/or lies told to them I am sure Mr Powell would maintain, and not to the fear of reproducing the chaos of Italian politics or the prospect of someone nobody wanted.
But let’s not run that all over again.
There are very many aspects of the management of Covid that many of us would question.
But hindsight is a wonderful thing especially in the unique circumstances it has subjected the nation to.
I have absolutely no conviction that any other party would have done very much different.
To illustrate those would take another column or two.
