Video captures first 100 years of club and theatre

-

OFTEN we look back at this day, or week in history or draw parallels between the world around us and the activity or shows at the theatre.

Our latest YouTube video, Southport Dramatic Club - a Dash through the Decades, encapsulates both. Originally conceived by Andrew Sloman and then brought to life with a team of member volunteers, the video tells the story of the first 100 years of our wonderful club and theatre whilst considering significant events in history too.

Follow the links via our social media and take a look. You are sure to spot events you have either learned about or lived through as well as learning about our origins and development.

Our club is ever evolving and has always been this way due to the dedication of members.

The theatre has many members who are in the same family; you can spot this when looking back over our chairs as there have been multiple husbands and wives who have taken their turns at the helm.

Our membership flourishes via families expanding, or indeed family and friends coming for a show or event and deciding they want to join and be part of the fun.

Membership of the Southport Dramatic

Club offers a chance to support the arts, learn new skills, perform, be part of a team and also to introduce others to our gem of an establishment.

We have all been missing these elements but there is more light at the end of this tunnel.

Last weekend, one of our experienced actor/directors, Celia Pope brought us an in house theatre event entitled Serendipity.

It was kept as a member event to allow us to be extra certain that the safety measures in place for performers and patrons alike are working well. Swan Song had given us confidence, but we needed to know how running a show with more than one actor would work.

We are delighted to confirm it ran smoothly and was an absolute delight for all involved. We are now keener than ever to launch our 2021/22 season.

The theatre has so many successes and it is inspiring to see all we have overcome. Over the last ten decades we have come back from war, fires, a flood and now a pandemic. If you wish to join us as a member, or want to let us know you will be joining us for our next season, just get in touch!

Southport Little Theatre is at Hoghton Street, Southport, Merseyside
