Bank Holiday weekend Beer Fest in Birkdale
GREAT news! The Southport & Birkdale Sports Club is hosting its inaugural S&Beer Festival over the August Bank Holiday weekend, (Friday, August 27 to Monday, August 30).
It was originally planned for last year, but we all know what went wrong then.
This festival is designed to be family friendly with food, drink, cricket, entertainment and a Kids Play Zone, which will include a children’s entertainer and a bouncy castle, so this is perhaps a great way for families to enjoy the tail end of the school summer holidays.
There will be a fine choice of real ales on the bar with 30 barrels of beer from 20 independent breweries, some to be served through 15 handpumps, while others will be straight from the cask.
Other drinkers will not be neglected as they will be able choose from cider, gin, prosecco and rum. Throughout the festival a barbecue and catering will be on hand to stave off any hunger pangs.
Live music is planned for every day, with also a DJ on the Saturday and Monday. There will be cricketing events held every day (start times in brackets): Friday: Hundred Invitational Match (6pm).
Saturday: S&BCC First 11 versus Bootle First 11 (11am).
Sunday: Rounders Tournament (11am).
Monday: The Southport Hundred Championship (midday).
This is the first beer festival to be held in the town since long before COVID. The club is to be commended for taking this innovative step to provide local drinkers with the opportunity to taste independentlybrewed ales that are not often available locally.
Admission is £5 on the door, which includes your first pint, a programme and a special beer festival cup.
Opening times are: Friday 6pm to 1am; Saturday 11am to 1am; Sunday 10am to 1am; Monday 11am to 11pm.
