Zero waste shop celebrates big milestone

- BY ANDREW BROWN

SOUTHPORT’S first organic whole foods, organic fruit and veg and zero waste shop has celebrated its third birthday.

OmNom Zero Waste opened at 14 Wesley Street in Southport town centre in January 2019 as Southport’s first organic refill and dedicated zero waste shop.

The ingenious store has over 100 refill products available along with many more items that can help you lead your best zero waste life.

OmNom Zero Waste owner Victoria Hughes said: “Happy third birthday to OmNom! Can you believe we opened the doors to our little shop three years ago?

“I opened OmNom with no business experience, no retail experience and at a time when the words ‘refill’ ‘zero waste’ and ‘sustainable living’ mostly resulted in perplexed looks.

“In three years we’ve saved thousands of single-use plastics ending up in landfill, incinerators or the oceans.

“We’ve met hundreds of like-minded individuals and are part of a wonderful community of independent refill shops across the UK.

“Our customers speak over 12 languages, they represent all age groups and economic backgrounds.

“We have supported amazing independent producers and makers from right here in Southport to across the UK.

“We’ve been invited to speak at school assemblies, completed miles of litter picks, used our democratic right to protest and somehow managed to keep expanding our product range through two years of economic lockdowns!

“It’s been nothing but hard graft but I am extremely proud of everything we have accomplished together, and I cannot wait to see what OmNom looks like in another three years.

“Thank you for your continued support of my little shop and the refill movement.”
