Kids invited to design garden as Flower Show set to bloom

-

JUNIOR school children (Years 3-6) are being invited to get creative and submit their winning designs for this year’s Southport Flower Show Design-a-Garden Competition.

The annual Southport Flower Show is always a youngster friendly event, with children under 16 admitted free with a paying adult.

This year’s show takes place from Thursday, August 18 to Sunday, August 21.

Youngsters can take part in this year’s Schools Design-a-Garden Competition, supported by HSBC.

It marks a welcome return for the popular contest which has not been able to take place over the past two years because of the impact of the Covid pandemic.

A Southport Flower Show spokesperson said: “We are inviting all junior school children (Years 3, 4, 5 and 6) to get creative and submit a design.

“The winning design will be built and showcased at this year’s show.

“We are looking for an exciting garden design to be built and showcased in our hugely popular show gardens area of the show.

“We are encouraging entries from individual children, rather than class entries.

“The paper designs are judged by a team of gardening specialists and horticulturists. One winning design will be selected.

“The competition winner, their family and their teachers will beinvited as our special guests to the show for the presentation.

“We will also be donating £200 gardening vouchers to the winning school to enhance their school grounds and setting.”

If you have any queries about the competition please email info@ southportflowershow.co.uk.

Please send your completed designs to: Southport Flower Show, Victoria Park, Southport,

PR8 1RX.

The closing date of the competition is Friday, May 6.

Southport residents with a PR8 or PR9 postcode can buy tickets for £18 each from the flower show office at Victoria Park or at The Atkinson in Lord Street. Proof of residency required.
