Assault on train: face of man police wish to trace

BRITISH Transport Police want to speak this man after a woman was sexually assaulted on a Southportb­ound train.

The incident happened at around 10.45am on Sunday, March 27, on a train travelling from Freshfield to Southport.

Police say the woman was waiting on the platform at Freshfield before being approached by a man who began to make inappropri­ate sexual comments towards her.

The man followed her as she boarded the train. During the journey he continued to make sexual comments and sexually assaulted her.

They both left at Southport station. British Transport Police believe the man in the picture may have informatio­n that could help their investigat­ion.

In a statement, British Transport Police said: “Do you recognise this man? Officers investigat­ing a sexual assault on a train between Freshfield and Southport station are today releasing CCTV images in connection.

“At around 10.45am on Sunday 27 March, a woman waiting on the platform at Freshfield station was approached by a man who engaged her in a conversati­on and began to make inappropri­ate sexual comments towards her. The woman boarded a train and the man followed her.

“During the journey he continued to make sexual comments towards her and sexually assaulted her before they both got off the train at Southport station. Officers believe the man in the CCTV images may have informatio­n which could help their investigat­ion.
