Ed, Reg and Jo return for town comedy festival

THE organisers of the 2022 Southport Comedy Festival organisers have announced three more top names for this year’s event.

Following their performanc­es at last year’s festival award winning comedy giants Reginald D Hunter, Ed Byrne and Jo Caulfield will be making a return to Victoria Park in Southport in a heated and seated luxury marquee courtesy of Elite Marquees.

Reginald D Hunter will be performing a work in progress show on Sunday, October 2, the first Sunday of the festival.

Since his arrival in the UK over 20 years ago Reginald’s searingly honest observatio­ns both onstage and on TV and radio have garnered him a cross-generation­al fan base.

His many TV appearance­s have included Have I Got News For

You?,QI, Live at the Apollo and two series of the BBC2’s hugely popular Reginald D Hunter’s Songs Of The South & Songs of The Border, documentin­g Reginald’s epic road trip through 150 years of American popular song.

Reginald has become one of the comedy industry’s best-known performers for his distinctiv­e take on the most diverse range of subjects.

His work can be brutally honest and is often considered to be controvers­ial but it is always meticulous­ly thought out and he has never been afraid to face challengin­g issues head on even when the focus is on his own principles or beliefs.

Ed Byrne and Jo Caufield will be performing together on a double bill on Sunday, October 9 in one fantastic night of comedy.

Irish comedian Ed Byrne has become a household name from his numerous TV appearance­s including The Pilgrimage, Top

Gear, QI, Dara & Ed’s Road To Mandalay, Dara & Ed’s Big Adventure, Mock The Week, Graham Norton Show, Have I Got News For You, Live At The Apollo presenting stints on Comic Relief Bake Off.

Whether you’ve seen her on TV shows such as Have I Got News For

You or Michael McIntyre’s Comedy Roadshow, heard her on the radio on Just a Minute or Stop The Press, or caught her live at one of her award-winning Edinburgh Festival shows, the chances are you’re already familiar with Jo’s work.

Jo received the prestigiou­s Circuit Comedian of the Year 2021 award as voted by her peers in the comedy industry.

Behind scenes Jo is a respected writer, having served as a writer/ programme consultant on all five series of Graham Norton’s BAFTA Award winning So Graham Norton and as head writer on both Ruby Wax’s Waiting Game and Zoe Ball’s Strictly Dance Fever.

Jo has also written for – among others – Joan Rivers, Ant & Dec and Anne Robinson.
