Winners of Cutest Pet competition revealed

- With Andrew Brown

THE five winners of our Southport’s Cutest Pet competition have now been revealed! The fun contest was held to celebrate the official opening of the brand new Jollyes pet store at Kew Retail Park in Southport on Saturday, July 2.

Southport Cutest Pets was run jointly by Sandgrounder Radio, Stand Up For Southport and Southport Dog Friendly.

The five winners each won a £50 Jollyes voucher to spend in the new store.

Sammi Rudge, owner of Southport Dog Friendly, said: “Southport Dog Friendly were thrilled to be part of this competition and we had a phenomenal response.

“It was incredibly difficult to pick just five winners - Southport has some spectacularly cute pets! “I hope that the winners enjoy spending their prize at the fabulous new Jollyes store.”

Andrew Brown, founder of Stand Up For Southport, said: “We’d like to say a huge thank you to everyone who took part in our competition to find Southport’s Cutest Pets! “We were inundated with entries, and were delighted to see lots of beautiful pictures of dogs, cats, guinea pigs, tortoises, birds and other animals.

“It was a really fun competition to run and seeing all those cute pictures really brightened up our day! Judging by all the likes and the comments on our respective social media pages, lots of other people loved seeing these pictures too.

“It was incredibly difficult to choose the eventual winners, we had so many amazing entries.

“We would like to thank Jollyes for sponsoring this competition, and were delighted to see them opening their superb new store here in Southport.”

Andrew Hilbert, Station Manager for Sandgrounder Radio, said: “Thank you to everyone who entered our Southport Cutest Pets competition! “It was so nice to see so many local people come along and support the opening of the new store.

“Jollyes opening a store here in Southport, for me, shows just how many national brands and companies view the potential of the town as a place to invest in and do business with.”

Hundreds of people and their pets enjoyed the launch of the new 6,000 square feet Jollyes venture at Kew Retail Park.

They were treated to a funpacked day with: entertainment including a magician, stilt walker and balloon artist; goody bags for the first 100 visitors; an outside broadcast from local radio station Sandgrounder Radio; free puppachinos from Churchtown dogfriendly cafe Barklays; and the chance to win prizes of up to £200 on Jollyes vouchers on the wheel of fur-tune.

Jollyes’ ‘stroke van’, in partnership with The Stroke Association, was parked outside the store so visitors could meet and stroke dogs - an idea inspired by research during the pandemic which showed pets make a positive contribution to owners’ physical and mental wellbeing.

The ceremonial red ribbon cutting to officially open the new venue was carried out by Mayor of Sefton, Councillor Clare Carragher, and by local two-legged celebrity canine, Dennis the mini dachshund.

The new store has created 10 jobs for local people.

Sarah Farrar, Jollyes regional manager, said: “On Saturday, July 2 we opened our latest store in Southport. Councillor Clare Carragher and Dennis the Dachshund were our guests of honour and it was amazing to see so many customers and their pets in our store! “A huge thank you to all of our colleagues and amazing supply partners who made the store happen and good luck to the Manager, Martin, and the team as they support the pet parents of Southport.

“Our colleagues have worked hard to make sure the site shows off our fantastic ranges at their best so that pet owners in the area can pick up what they need.”

Jollyes boasts an extensive number of ranges, including dog and cat food, toys and accessories, food, treats and accessories for small pets, birds and fish.

Pet owners can also enjoy Jollyes’ exclusive Lifestage dog food range, including dry food, trays and cans.
