Reflections of a life on the stage

-

THE Actress has taken to the stage and our audiences are delighted. How apt that this was playing as we celebrated World Theatre day earlier this week on Monday, March 27. It has been a reflective week, with the anniversary of lockdowns and this makes us all the more grateful to be back entertaining you.

The Actress is also reflective. In Peter Quilter’s well observed play, we meet Lydia Martin who is played by the sublime Sandra Unsworth.

Lydia is about to take to the stage for her farewell performance, before moving to Switzerland with her fiancé Charles (the impeccable Leslie Cheeseman). The evening may not go as smoothly as she imagined as she is visited backstage by her ex husband Paul (the dashing Mike Yates), aided and abetted by their daughter Nicole (new member Ann Domoney).

Add to the mix her put upon dresser Katherine, headstrong stage manager Margaret and over excited agent Harriet (the terrific trio of Celia Timmington, Fiona Billington and Diane Mackley) and the scene is set for farewells, friction and frivolity.

Director Poppy Flanagan has described her experience as a pleasure to work with such a committed and enthusiastic group of actors. The show runs until Saturday,

April 1 so grab your tickets now to see how it all ends.

Also in rehearsal we have scenes from iconic comedy Blackadder the Third. Director Jacqui Padden has assembled a top team of comic actors who are having lots of fun bringing Richard Curtis’s script to life. Blackadder the Third runs from 5-13th May.

Our final production of the season will be our bar production. Lilies on the Land, an evocative and moving tale of Land Girl life, will be directed by Paul Wilkinson and runs from 13-17 June.

If you think you would like to be involved with the club, we will be having another one of our open evenings for prospective members on Friday 14th April, so look out for details here or via our social media.
