Trust joins campaign to keep midwives safe
SOUTHPORT and Ormskirk Hospital NHS Trust has signed the Royal College of Midwives (RCM) Caring For You Charter, committing to providing a healthy safe working environment for colleagues within Maternity Services.
The charter aims to improve services for women and babies by improving the wellbeing of midwives, maternity support workers and student midwives.
By signing the charter, the trust is committing to a positive and inclusive culture where staff feel valued, respected and invested in, as well as committing to providing a safe and healthy working environment.
Signed by Dawn Meredith, Head of Midwifery, the Caring For You Charter recognises that healthy and well-rested maternity staff are at the heart of providing safe, high-quality care for women and their families.
Dawn said: “The campaign aims to improve RCM members’ health, safety and wellbeing at work, so they are able to provide high quality maternity care for women and their families.
“This campaign is not just about caring for staff, though; it is also about enabling them to deliver the best possible care to women, babies, and their families. By signing this charter, we are strengthening our commitment to work with the RCM to help to deliver better and safer care.”

Ensure they provide a positive, inclusive culture where staff feel valued, respected and invested in;
Provide a safe and healthy working environment;
Address inequality, incivility other negative behaviour;
Nurture staff to be the best they can be;
Work in partnership with the RCM. and
