Closed town pub is now listed for sale at £800,000
A PUB which closed its doors unexpectedly last year has been listed for sale.
The Victoria, in Southport, boasts a prominent location on the town’s promenade, and had a packed beer garden through the summer months.
The venue shut suddenly in July 2022 after surviving the Covid-19 pandemic. It is understood the closure was linked to a hike in rent, although owner Thwaites declined to comment at the time.
Thwaites had listed the pub on the vacancies section of its website, but the advert has since disappeared. The Victoria is now available for sale, with an asking price of £800,000.
According to the listing with Fleurets, there is “potential for alternative use development” at the site on Stanley Terrace.
It adds: “The property consists of a semi-detached, three-storey Victorian-era public house constructed in brick with painted elevations under a pitched slate roof. It was formerly two separate buildings that have been integrated.
“There are two single-storey flat roof additions to the rear of the property. There are two small yards to the rear that are used for access and storage, with a large paved beer patio to the front of the property. There is limited on-site parking provision.”
According to Fleurets, the pub has 80 covers in the main area and a separate space which was previously used as a games room and sports bar. Its first floor has extra trading space with a meeting room, as well as private accommodation with three bedrooms.
The Victoria’s website remains online, having not been updated for some time, and describes it as “Southport’s busiest pub”. It adds: “We have the best beer terrace in the town, meaning we’re the perfect spot to enjoy a pint in the seaside air.”
