- BY ANDREW BROWN

BUGZY Malone will perform his only North West summer festival in Southport.

The acclaimed British rapper and actor, whose tracks have been streamed more than 200 million times, will perform at the Seaside Weekender at Victoria Park on Friday, July 21.

He will be supported by an orchestral rendition of Dr Dre: 2001 Live, with other acts to be announced soon.

Bugzy Malone’s appearance on the Friday night will be followed by the Save The Rave Festival on Saturday, July 22 and the Look-A-Like Festival on Sunday, July 23.

This is Bugzy Malone’s first appearance in Southport and tickets are already selling well.

His new album The Resurrection is out now.

Born and raised in Manchester, Bugzy Malone’s youth was hindered by poverty, domestic violence, gang involvement, criminality and a stint in prison.

Yet by managing to transcend his troubled past and difficult upbringing, Bugzy is the embodiment of achievement in the face of adversity.

To date, he has released three Top 10 EPs, his tracks have been streamed 200 million times, and his YouTube channel has exceeded 100 million views.

He has been described as one of the key artists instigating a grime revival moving the UK urban scene away from more commercially oriented music, and the first artist in the grime genre from Manchester to commercially succeed in the UK.

His album King of the North reached number 4 on the UK Album Chart.

As an actor he has starred in productions including Guy Ritchie’s 2019 movie The Gentlemen alongside Matthew McConaughey, Hugh Grant, Colin Farrell and Charlie Hunnam.

Seaside Weekender organiser James Daly, owner of Jaly Concerts, said: “We really can’t wait! It is fantastic to be back for our third year running in Southport.

“This is the first time that we have staged an event on the Friday night, to add to what we have on the Saturday and the Sunday, which have been a great success.

“It will be a superb weekend at Victoria Park with a very eclectic mix of different acts performing each day.

“We are really excited to be bringing Bugzy Malone to Southport this year.

“He has gained a huge following, and ticket sales are going exceedingly well.

“Ticket sales for the Saturday and Sunday are above last year’s as well, so it looks like we’re heading for some sell-out events.

“We would encourage people to book their tickets early so they don’t miss out.

“We are really looking forward to the Seaside Weekender.

“More acts will be released over the coming weeks, please look out on our social media pages for the latest news.”

Alan Adams, the general manager of Southport Flower Show and Victoria Park Events, said: “We can’t wait to host the Seaside Weekender music festival from Friday, July 21 to Sunday, July 23.

“This live music event will attract more than 18,000 visitors to the town across the three days, benefitting the local economy and helping establish Southport as one of the premier coastal destinations in the UK.

“Alongside the usual Save The Rave (Saturday, July 22) and Lookalike (Sunday, July 23) festivals, this year will see the world famous hip-hop and rap artist Bugzy Malone performing his only UK show this year on Friday, July 23.

“The event gets bigger and bigger each year, with more mainstream artists being sought for future years which will offer more variety to music lovers.

“There are lots of advertising and sponsorship options available, at all the events we host, as well as our very own Southport Flower Show.
