Partnership between school and NHS in good health

- BY GEORGINA HIGHCOCK

MEOLS Cop High School and Southport and Ormskirk NHS Trust are collaborating to offer students an innovative programme of opportunities to explore careers in the healthcare sector.

The aim of the collaboration is to support recruitment and retention strategies in the NHS and give students an insight into the vast and varied number of career opportunities available to them.

The partnership will offer students the chance to work with professionals from different departments of the hospital, including nursing, health care assistants, radiology and finance.

Through interactive sessions and work experience opportunities, students will gain valuable knowledge and hands-on experience of what it takes to work in the healthcare sector, including the essential skills required for each role.

The collaboration is a great way to expose students to a range of healthcare professions and help them develop the skills they need to succeed in these roles.

The programme will also help address the skills gap in the NHS, which has been exacerbated by the ongoing pandemic.

“We are thrilled to be partnering with Southport and Ormskirk NHS Trust to offer our students a unique insight into the healthcare sector,” said Meols Cop headteacher Ian Parry.

“Our school vision to Broker Aspirations places the futures of our students at the core of everything we do.

“This partnership is crucial to support them to live and breathe the world of work, inspiring them to succeed and make a positive impact on the community they live in”

Emma Greenough, apprenticeship and work experience lead at Southport and Ormskirk NHS Trust, added: “We are delighted to be working in partnership with Meols Cop High School to provide a wide range of clinical and nonclinical work experience placements for the students later this year.

“In turn, this will only enhance the NHS recruitment strategies. Engaging strategic partners such as Meols Cop will help maximise the opportunities to grow our own workforce which will inevitably improve recruitment and retention within the NHS and the local area. Together we can inspire and create our future workforce.”

The collaboration between Meols Cop High School and Southport Hospital highlights the importance of partnerships between schools and hospitals to support the development of the next generation of healthcare professionals.

The programme will benefit both the students and the NHS, and we look forward to seeing the positive impact of this collaboration.
