WE’RE going back in time to May 1982 in Southport once again, to take a look at how much our town has changed, how much of it has stayed the same – and to see whether you recognise any of the faces in the pictures!

This beautiful park still boasts the same cafe now as it did back then!

It’s still a popular place for people of all generation­s to go and play or relax.

A marching band makes its way along Lord Street in May 1982 as the Mayor of Sefton takes the salute on a platform next to The Monument.

Were these VE Day commemorat­ions? Southport Crown Post Office in the background was open in those days and the bus stops look very different!

Students at King George V Grammar School - later to become King George V Sixth Form College - show off their impressive model bridge building skills. That’s quite a structure they’ve built between them! Southport organists enjoy a dinner in May 1982.
