New owners ready to give Remedy cafe a fresh start

- BY ANDREW BROWN

THE former Remedy café in the Town Hall Gardens in Southport town centre is looking forward to welcoming new owners.

Owner Susannah Porter has run the successful venue, famous for its quality food, craft gins and beers and great coffee, for the past eight years.

She has now accepted an offer from a new operator to take on the lease.

The venue will be reopening under a new name, with more news about the café - to be operated by an established local business owner - due to be revealed soon.

The busy Remedy cafés in Churchtown Village, in Bretherton and at Beales department store in Southport will remain open.

Remedy in the Town Hall Gardens closed its doors on October 31 last year before reopening again briefly for two weeks before Christmas.

Susannah Porter said: “Remedy on Lord Street needs some money spending on it, it needs some new investment in the building.

“After eight very happy years there, the time seemed right for new owners to come in and to create a new future for it.

“It becomes incredibly busy there when the sun’s out and everyone’s sitting outside!

“We opened there in 2015.

“I looked at selling our lease and have been having conversations with an established local business owner who is very keen to take it on.

“We will be able to share more details about that soon.

“I would like to say a big thank you to all our wonderful customers who have supported us over the past eight years, and also to our amazing members of staff.

“All of our staff have either been redeployed to our other

Susannah has been extremely busy these past eight years.

As well as building up her growing Remedy business empire, and managing staff across four separate sites, she has been a driving force in the regeneration of the town.

She has been chair of Southport BID; a board member on Southport Town Deal; and a governor at Southport College.

Susannah said: “For me, it’s about stepping back a little bit. I have been working non-stop on many different projects. I wish the new owners success.”
