Enjoy fantastic, energetic caper with hilarious characters

- BY JENNIFER CORCORAN AND ANDREW SLOMAN

THE nation is gearing up for the coronation of King Charles III and our theatre will remain closed on Saturday 6 May to allow all of our members and patrons to mark the occasion with friends and family.

Our King is not the only third celebrating this weekend, we also have Blackadder the Third going forth this weekend, opening on Friday, 5 May.

The show is then reopening on Monday 8 May, running at 7.30pm each night until Friday 12 May. The final performance will be a 2.30pm matinee on Saturday 13 May.

The King in this historical instalment is George III, and his son is the Prince Regent – played by Hugh Laurie in the television version.

Blackadder here is the servant to the Prince and of course Baldrick is further down the pecking order.

Over the course of four episodes of the classic sitcom, said Prince weathers an assassination attempt, advice from actors (the horror!), a thwarted romance and being due to duel with the Duke.

We meet all manner of hilarious characters along the way including Mrs Miggins, famous for her buns, a mysterious highwayman known only as ‘The Shadow’ and Blackadder’s mad Scottish cousin, MacAdder.

The company have had a rip roaring time in rehearsals and this promises to be a fantastic, energetic caper that will tickle all of your funny bones – make sure you snap up your tickets!

This is our last main stage play of the season, but we will be welcoming visiting societies over the next few months for their summer musicals so keep an eye on our website and social media for more information.

The dramatic club do have one final treat for you before our season break; Lilies on the Land tells the stories of land girls who changed their lives to do their bit during the second world war.

This four hander brings their stories to life in an engaging and innovative way and runs from 13-17 June in our bar at 7.30pm each night.

To book tickets, visit our website – or call/visit our box office on 01704 530521/01704 530460.

Our trained volunteers are happy to assist between 11am and 1pm, or for two hours before any performance.
