Award for teacher who is one of country’s best

ATEACHER at a Formby primary school has been named as one of the best in the country.

Matthew King, Assistant Headteacher at Trinity St Peter’s Primary School in Formby, has been announced as the gold winner of the Award for Teacher of the Year in a Primary School in the 2023 Pearson National Teaching Awards on BBC’s The One Show.

Matthew has been recognised for his unwavering commitment to his students and the wider school community in Liverpool.

He was nominated and selected as the gold award winner from thousands of nominees based on his inspirational teaching, contributions to his school and community, and influence among colleagues, as assessed by judges.

Matthew received the news during a special school assembly, which he thought was being held to showcase his annual Kindness Video, but in fact, revealed a video message from his pupils.

Championing mental health and well-being in his school, Matthew always strives for his students to be aware of their impact on the world around them.

During a week-long celebration honouring inspirational educators across the country, BBC’s The One Show announced seven of 16 gold award winners of the Pearson National Teaching Awards to shine a light on their amazing achievements.

The Pearson National Teaching Awards is an annual celebration that honours the outstanding achievements of educators.

It’s run by the Teaching Awards Trust, an independent charity, and sponsored by Pearson, a learning company.
