Host to leave breakfast show after shake-up at radio station
A RADIO City host is set to leave the breakfast show ahead of a major change for the station.
Scott Hughes is leaving the show after four years of presenting alongside Leanne Campbell.
Bauer Media, who own the radio station, said Leanne will now be joined by Joel Ross in a new breakfast show as it merges with Radio City’s sister station Rock FM.
In a statement posted to Instagram, Scott described it as an ‘end of an era’ as he announced his contract had not been renewed.
Scott said: “Radio City and Bauer Media have decided they want to take the show in a new direction and have chosen not to renew my contract.
“Working with Leanne (don’t panic, she’s staying) for the last four years has been an incredible experience.
“We’ve cried laughing together most days and I will miss her dearly.
“I want to wish her all the best with the new show and really hope you will continue to support her.
“Liverpool is my home now and I’m gutted I won’t be on the radio waking you up in the future, but sadly that is out of my hands.
“Time for something new...In a bit lids! Scott x”
Leanne Campbell also took to Instagram following the announcement as she said goodbye to her ‘radio husband.’
Leanne said: “You might have heard the announcement.
“Our time together is coming to an end ...no ..... don’t start me.
“My lucky number 10 (10th radio husband) won’t be joining me each morning from January as two radio stations come together.
“Radio City and Rock FM will host one breakfast show and the line-up will change once more.
“It’s hard to explain how close you get when you work on a breakfast show together.
“It’s a weirdly wonderful bond and I’m so lucky to have had Scott by my side for what’s been a rollercoaster few years.
“I’ll never give up on finding him the love of his life so be sure to keep the applications coming!
“None of us are daft, with less stations comes fewer jobs and I’m counting my blessings to still be doing the job I love in my city from the tower til it’s my turn to say ‘tra!’
“But for now, a new challenge awaits me on Radio City Breakfast and I know Scott’s got an exciting future ahead of him with some sleep-ins planned and a possible OnlyFans account to launch x.”
Gary Stein, Group Programme Director for the Hits Radio Brand Network, said: ‘We’re thrilled to make this announcement - both Leanne and Joel are much-loved broadcasters, and we know they’ll be putting together a can’t-miss breakfast show for Radio City and Rock FM listeners.
“I’d like to thank Scott for the last four years on Radio City and wish him all the best in his next chapter.”
