Close the gap

then a three straight win from Martyn against Audry secured it at 6-2.

Yet another fascinating five gamer then stretched that lead with Dave finally clinching it 11-5 in the fifth against Ted, making it four contests on the night that the hosts had won in the fifth.

Would there be another in the final contest?

Well not quite as Janette produced a very good performance to overcome Roger in three straight to give us a final score of 7-3 Sandstorm B which probably was the right result, but I feel it was just a little too close for comfort for the high flyers.

Southport B were also at the new Formby Village venue to play the C team, who sadly were missing three players including number one Jackson Cockbain.

Again the match was one way traffic in favour of the visitors, and with

Liam Chau leading the charge, it finished a maximum win for Southport.

Tough to take for the home side especially on such a night.

But Ron Makin, Les Page, David Jones and Tim Colocott, all gave their best on after all, an enjoyable night’s table tennis.

Argyle B kept up with the top two after a 9-1 victory over their B team, where Phil Robinson led the plaudits in a great all round team performance.

Argyle C also had a good night when they entertained Sandstorm E where Les Dodds’ five game success over Nikolaj Primuck was indeed the highlight of a full house of singles wins for the home side.

Nikolaj with Colin Fyles won their side’s only point in their doubles encounter against Les and Adrian Hyland, 7-11 in the fifth, justice maybe!

Lastly, leaders Crosby D were once again in complete control after conceding only two games in a maximum win against a weakened Crosby C.

That’s 10 out of ten for them, and a nine point lead over Sandstorm D. I wouldn’t bet against them.

Division Three leaders Southport D maintained their 100% record and top place after a 3-7 away victory over Crosby E, where Jayden Chau was again in outstanding form, along with a brilliant shift from Phil O’mullane.

Argyle E got back to winning ways after last week’s emphatic loss against Southport D.

In fact their 8-2 win over their G team moved them a point closer to the new leaders, with just two points now separating them.

Southport C lost ground on the top two after being held at home by Formby Village D.

They were without two regulars in Andy Bush and captain Paul Harrison, but with Jeff Cummins from the D team deputising earning a full quota of wins and Nathan Colocott doing likewise for Formby, then maybe the result was about right in the end.

Argyle F just came out on top in an exciting 6-4 home win against Sandstorm F, where young Jess Rigby again caught the eye with an impressive full quota of wins whilst the visitors’ Norman Cutler’s fine brace kept them in with a chance.

In the Crosby mini derby between their G and F teams, the G team lost a player before the start through illness, so the resulting 5-5 draw was a very good result for them.
