Southport Visiter

Life at The Little Theatre, Southport Wishing you a Merry Christmas from all of us!

-

WE would like to wish you a very Merry Christmas from all of us at the Southport Dramatic Club!

As is our tradition, our pantomime opened shortly before Christmas and we have now given our hard working cast, crew and volunteers a couple of days off to celebrate with family and friends.

The Pied Piper will be back on stage on Wednesday, December 27 and the show runs until Sunday, January 7 2024.

What you may not know is that our fourth offering of the season has not always been a pantomime, and we have not always brought it to you in December either!

Back in 1970 when we presented Aladdin, the show ran from January 2 - 17, then the following season we brought you Dick Whittington and his Cat in January 1971 and Sleeping

Beauty in January 1972.

The next pantomime straddled two calendar years with Jack and the Beanstalk opening on December 29 1972 and playing until January 13 1973.

The pantomime run tended to start after Christmas until the 1994/5 season when Goldilocks and the Three Bears forged a new tradition, opening on December 21 and running until January 8. This more closely resembles the run that we still have almost two decades later.

The aforementioned shows have been produced more than once over the years, along with other classics such as Cinderella. However, we have not brought you The Pied Piper before so this is another slice of history in the making.

Our audiences are loving the tale of the plucky piper who rids Hamelin of an infestation of rats, only to be double crossed by the beastly Burgomeister.

With classic showtunes and modern pop hits, there are toe tapping numbers to appeal to audiences young and old.

Tickets are still available for a few performances and you can also book for any of our remaining shows this season: Elsie and Norm; Pressure; DNA/It Snows; Dead Guilty; The Good Life and The Revlon Girl. If you prefer to speak to one of our volunteer members when our box office is open please visit in person or call 01704 530 521/01704 530 460.

Hours of operation are11am-1pm then again at 6pm when there is a performance.

You can find our online box office by visiting the website and clicking “Book Now”. You can also find news and updates on the website or follow us on Facebook and Instagram.
