The In­ter­na­tional Olympic Com­mit­tee awarded rights to broad­cast the 2014 win­ter Olympic Games in Sochi, the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro and the 2014 Youth Olympic Games in Nan­jing to Star In­dia, the 21st Cen­tury Fox-owned broad­caster, in a deal cov­er­ing seven south Asian ter­ri­to­ries. Pre­vi­ously, Olympic rights on the In­dian sub­con­ti­nent and in south-east Asia were held by ESPN Star Sports as part of a pan-Asian deal. The ter­ri­to­ries cov­ered un­der the new deal are: Bangladesh, Bhutan, In­dia, the Mal­dives, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka.
