The state government of South Australia announced it is considering mounting a bid for Adelaide to host the 2030 Commonwealth Games. A feasibility committee has been established to consider proposing an Adelaide bid to the Australian Commonwealth Games Committee. South Australia is the only mainland Australian state yet to host a Commonwealth Games. Adelaide was beaten by Kuala Lumpur to stage the 1998 games, and was an early contender to be Australia’s candidate city for 2018, which eventually went to Gold Coast, Queensland. Gold Coast beat off competition from Hambantota, Sri Lanka to be awarded the 2018 Commonwealth Games. Glasgow, Scotland will play host next year.
