Lausanne received the nomination of Swiss Olympic, Switzerland’s national Olympic committee, ahead of rival Lucerne to be the country’s candidate in the running to host the 2020 winter Youth Olympic Games. Lausanne, the so-called ‘Olympic capital’ and home of the International Olympic Committee, received eight votes from the Swiss Olympic executive board, while there were four votes for Lucerne and one abstention. The IOC must receive all applications by November 28, and its members will vote to decide the host city in 2015. The inaugural edition of the winter Youth Olympic Games was held in Innsbruck, Austria last year and the second event will be hosted by Lillehammer in Norway in 2016.
