Tom’s top tips Wildfowling notebook

-

I have used a notebook throughout my wildfowling career to keep valuable information regarding different marshes, tides, weather conditions and time of year. These are some great bits of information that will often slip the mind and are well worth logging. I started my first book by gauging what different height tides would do to the marsh and gutter in different conditions (i.e. lots of rain fall and during windy days). This helped me determine what tides I could sit out on and what would push me off. As well as being a helpful tool to produce birds for the table, it’s also a great for safety. Each book can be personalised to the individual’s needs. I log tide heights to certain areas including the weather that day and recent rainfall, bird movements at different times of year and much more. I would recommend keeping records for anyone, even if it’s for an inland splash as they can be helpful to look back on when planning your next trip out.
