Basc fights the flight ban
German airline Lufthansa has banned passengers from carrying firearms while travelling into Scottish airports. BASC Scotland has been working with the Scottish Government and the police to resolve the issue. The association’s director Dr Colin Shedden said the ban has been impacting on tourists travelling to Scotland to go deerstalking — even when they are in possession of valid visitor permits. He said that there is “no legal basis” for the ban and explained: “There should be no embargo on visitors coming to Scotland with firearms as long as they have a valid visitor permit.” This latest ban follows a similar one by Lufthansa last year, which was reversed after fieldsports organisations lodged complaints with the Scottish Government.
