Sharing the spoils

Do you eat all the wildfowl you shoot, or do you give some away? I have seen a lot of people in my club give it away and wanted to know your thoughts on this.

Tom says: I am passionate about eating game as we shoot to eat. My girlfriend Charlie and I eat game most nights throughout the year and I am very reluctant to give it away. There are times when family would like some, but even then, we tend to barter and swap it for something else.

I understand that giving game to friends and neighbours can be good for the sport and spreading the wealth of our bounty, but we do this by cooking game for guests. I wouldn’t buy a trolley full of food from a supermarket and give it to my neighbour, so why do it with my ducks and geese? The main game we share is pheasant, which we have in abundance from the many shoots in our area.
