The Howesyke shoot in Grafton, york, received the 2018 Purdey Gold award for Game and Conservation at a ceremony held at james Purdey & Sons’ Long room in London. The annual awards, which this year mark their 20th anniversary, celebrate the uk’s most outstanding game and conservation projects. The Howesyke shoot, run by rob and Helen Brown, was praised for its work in woodland and heather restoration, alongside a successful scheme to reintroduce blackgrouse on the site. The judges described the shoot as “a perfect small sporting estate in the uplands of England” and the couple received the award, along with a cheque for £5,000.
