Learn to shoot from home

A new online shotgun shooting course will give people the chance to learn how to tackle targets from the comfort of their homes.

The 20-part course is called Shotgun Shooting Success and features Clay Pigeon Shooting Association qualified instructor Malcolm Dunn. He looks at 10 common targets faced by shotgun shooters and how to approach them.

Filmed at Thimbleby Shooting Ground in North Yorkshire, the course has been created by game shot Rob Marsden – the man behind The Country Gent podcast.

Rob, who has been shooting for nearly 15 years, decided to create the course after struggling to achieve consistent results on both clays and game, despite working with coaches, watching DVDS and reading books.

He said: “I decided what I needed was an online course; something that would take me right back to the beginning and explain all the fundamentals of successful shotgun shooting, plus some reliable and proven methods for shooting the most common types of targets. Online learning is something I’d done a lot of in the past, from web design to podcasting. It’s a way of learning that works really well for a lot of people. However, my search very quickly revealed what was I was looking for didn’t exist, so there was only one thing for it – I decided to create it myself.”

The course uses slow-motion video to show precisely where to pick a target up, how to track the target and when to pull the trigger. It is designed for shooters of all levels and covers all aspects of shotgun shooting starting with safety, how a shotgun works and everything you need to know about cartridges.

The first two lessons are free and can be found at www.theyorkshiregent.com/free.
