Shooting after surgery

-

I’ve just had major surgery but have some game days booked this season. How soon can I get back to shooting or what can I do to make it easier to shoot until I regain full fitness?

Tony says: I think this is something you should discuss with your doctor. You should certainly not be doing anything that is going to be detrimental to your health or recovery. I would suggest a slow reintroduction to your shooting, possibly only firing a few shots on your first outing. Using a smaller calibre gun could help because of its lighter weight and lighter recoil will reduce the stress on your body. Slowly build up your sessions over the months making sure you don’t overdo it. Maybe try to get your shoot days moved to next season when you can shoot at your best after making a full recovery.
