In the loop on motherlines
I am looking at trying out a motherline on the tidal gutters and wanted to know what you believe to be the best method for attaching the decoys on to the line? I have been told that fishing swivels and tying loop knots in the mainline is the best way to attach decoys to motherlines.
Tom says: I used to use motherlines with knots tied into it to allow me to attach my decoys with the use of fishing swivels. It works, but I found the loops allowed the motherline to tangle easily, and it didn’t give me the freedom to attach the decoys exactly where I wanted them. I swapped to long-line fishing clips years ago. These attach to the line without the need of a loop, allowing you to secure the decoys anywhere on the line. I also found that the newer and thicker motherline was less susceptible to tangles, which makes setting and gathering decoys a quicker and smoother operation.
